The Angler: Wood Sculpture

I knew there was a reason I never share my sculptures. They're fucking huge and downright impossible to photograph, but some people have asked about it recently, so...

Anyway, this is the abomination that chills on my dining room table that you see in some of my painting shots. The dining room tables serves as the only bloody place this stupid thing will fit. I built this well over a year ago, and could never bring myself to try and capture its size on camera. Today, I made that effort, and now I hate my life. I hate this sculpture, I hate that it puts holes in my paintings, and I hate that for some reason I don't want to get rid of it.

It's a little over 6 feet long, about 5 feet tall, and nearly 3.5 feet wide...I think.

How I made it:
The entire sculpture is comprised of hundreds of individual pieces I spent several hours cutting out using a large ban saw, hell if I know how many there are.

After collecting a massive pile of these pieces, I nailed together a flat 2d shape, then gradually began building off of that using wood glue and a nail gun over a period of a few days to compose the giant form you see now.

Next was completing coating the piece with black paint, then I spent about 10 hours with a right angle grinder and disk to carve out notches into literally every single individual piece that make up the sculpture, giving it that angler fish look.

Lastly, was the clear coat sealant...it's supposed to be sort of shiny.

Then I ripped up my arm and car interior with it hanging out the back hatch to get it back to my apartment. It was probably one of the worst experiences ever.
